An Intro to Pedestal Base Tables

Dunes and I designed each of these pedestal bases to be timeless statements for your home to to also handle a variety of different size tops. Here’s a guide to help you decide what’s going to be best for you.

Capstan

This grooved base can hold up to a 70” round top or a 78” long rectangular table. The design under the pedestal base is called a “footing” and is always half the size and shape of the top for balance and stability. The center ball on this base is 12” in diameter. These are solid wood, made of turned poplar or turned oak and can be painted, stained or cerused. To see more examples on Instagram search #ddcapstantable

Chunky Captain’s Compass

Complicated name, simple design. This pedestal base with the smooth ball has held tables as large as 87” round or 87” long. The center ball is 12” in diameter and the base of the pedestal is 20”. The pedestal rests on a footing that is always half the size and shape of the top. The base is solid wood, made of turned poplar and can be painted or stained. Regatta Cup

This is the most recent addition to our pedestal offerings and is reminiscent of a sailing trophy. Similar in scale to the Capstan, it also holds up to a 70” round or 78” long and is made of turned poplar. It can be painted or stained. To see more examples on Instagram search #regattacuptable.

Super Capstan

It is exactly what it sounds like—a super-size version of our Capstan base. Designed to carry heavy loads of up to 90” in diameter or 125” long this base comes in turned poplar and also in resin for outdoor use. The ribbed center of the pedestal ball measures 20”. Can be painted or stained.

Captain’s Compass

Petite compared to those above, this base with the 9” in diameter center ball can hold up to 40” round or about 40” long. Available in resin, turned ash or oak, this base is used for breakfast tables, end tables and cut down to cocktail size sometimes. Can be painted, stained or cerused.
